TCBA Youth Cycling Club

Mission

Our mission is to transform a young person's life through the power of a bicycle. We are the club for the future.

Who We Are

The TCBA Youth Cycling Club is a club of kids, by the kids and for the kids. This club is operated under TCBA rules and guidelines to form a youth committee and run many activities. The committee is mentored by TCBA Board members and is responsible for marketing, activities, events, safety education, promotions, etc.

Why we do it

We envision that a bike could represent many things such as the freedom to travel; the self-confidence and pride of riding more miles than ever imagined; the security of belonging and contributing to a group; the development of responsibility and skills that can lead to a job; the ability to solve social and mechanical problems, and the opportunity to explore a city and expand horizons. There are many benefits that this club would bring to the younger people in their life. This club would help improve physical activity, allow them to experience the life-long benefits of cycling, leading to increased confidence, self-esteem, which all conclude to a healthier lifestyle. For us, the bicycle is a tool for both personal and social change. With that, this club would get the youth more involved and connected

Monthly Bike Safety Workshop

What & How We Organize Our Activities

We would focus on organizing rides, some spotlight advocacy, and safety education as well as presenting at schools and communities. Working with other organizations to be part of their program such as after school programs,  police-community outreach groups, or a health-based group would also be part of our plan. The club would provide members with information on new places to ride, a body of like-minded people to ride with, a source of answers to cycling (and life) questions, and a united front to help promote bicycling and safety. In the summer, we will host a youth bicycle summer camp for a week. The club would work with the schools to host a “bike to school” program and national bike week program. The club would incorporate some non-bicycle activities into the pitch and programs (i.e. "cycle for pizza," "cycle for ice cream," "cycle to a bakery", "cycle to the movies," "cycle to the fun center," or "cycle to a special park", “cycle to protect our earth”. Another thing we would do, is educate and market our club by inviting youth to join us by (i.e. "join the club to ride more often," "join the club for comradery," "join the club to see new places," "join the club to learn how to ride better," "join the club to share your knowledge and experience with others," etc.). In all, we would work with elementary, middle, and high schools to form a youth bicycle club in the school.
